Dreadlocks

Dreadlocks, also called locks, dreads, or Jata, are matted hair formed into ropes or coils. Typically, dreadlocks are intentionally formed using a lot of backcombing and a sort of "fire-starter" hand motion, but, depending on the hair texture, dreads can be formed using the neglect method as well. Dreadlocks, when forming must be washed up to twice a week, a common misconception of dreadlocks is that dreadlock wearer doesn't wash their hair, but this is not the case.

Dreadlocks are most commonly associated with the Rastafari movement, but dreadlocks have been worn by many cultures going back to ancient times. The first reported dreadlocks were said to be in North American and Ancient Egypt used in wigs.
