Kimala Says Farewell To Adorn

To My Beloved Adorn,

When I first entered your door on Lexinton Ave. in 2006, I was a shy, uncertain, 16-year-old. Eight years later, I leave you a confident adult. It’s been a long and winding road and I have been so lucky. Over the years, I’ve moved around, changed area codes, schools, and boyfriends (haha), and Adorn has remained a consistent anchor, keeping me from getting blown away by the whirlwind that was my early 20’s. It’s been so much more than a job, it’s been my friends, my family, my support system and my heart.
Through every major milestone, I had my mentor and, truly, my sister, Rebecca, to confide in and council with, providing me with insights into areas I could not navigate on my own. I had my dear friends (some would call them co-workers) to lean on or to have lean into me - because both positions help you feel stronger. I had the thriving community that is Adorn to explore my own creativity and figure out what I’m capable of as a friend, employee, human...I also had all of our wonderful clients, who met me years ago, who have seen me grow up, who remember me, and share their lives with us. It’s a beautiful thing to work in a place like Adorn where the whole philosophy is to make people feel beautiful - you all make me feel beautiful.
Of course, it is my style to convey hearty theatrics, when we all know I will still be in and around Adorn all the time, as it will always be my favorite place. I love you all very much. I leave you how I came to you, with borrowed bravery and an openness to the unknown.

All My Love,
Kimala

Another New Face at Adorn!

Hello, all! My name is Julia Holladay and I am absolutely chuffed to be the new Receptionist at Adorn Salon and Boutique! I look forward to meeting each and every one of you.

A little about me...I've been a resident of Asheville virtually all my life having moved here from Charlotte when I was four. I love this city beyond measure. I share my life in these magnificent mountains with my hubby-to-be, David, my two daughters, Sarah and Rachel, and one extremely large cat, Collins.

I've been involved in local theatre in various capacities for many years having worked most closely with the Montford Park Players and The Magnetic Theatre. The Montford Amphitheatre is my beloved home away from home. I am incredibly grateful and fortunate to be part of the amazing theatre family that Asheville is so blessed to have.

Although I may look fairly professional and straight-laced, I am an unapologetic, flag waving, sci-fi/ fantasy, super-hero loving nerd. The high point of every year for me is when I can attend Dragon*Con. From Doctor Who to Star Trek to LOTR to Marvel and many other fandoms in between - I love it all.

I'll see you soon at the salon!

New addition to the family

Hello Everyone!  My name is Fasetta and I am excited to be the wedding coordinator at Adorn.  I've been involved with wedding planning since 2007.  The years following I've been growing my family and putting roots down in Madison County.  Joining the Adorn team has put me back on the scene and I'm ready to make wedding dreams come true.  Just one more thing about me... I am passionate about the culinary arts... I love to cook!  So, I thought for my first day here at Adorn I would bring in my favorite holiday treat.

Fasetta's Holiday cheese balls with a Dijon dipping sauce is one of my go to treats during this time of year.  Easy to make and delicious.
Recipe:
The Balls:
1 lbs ground sausage (hot & spicy)
1 lbs (4cups) shredded cheddar cheese
3 cups Bisquick mix
dash of paprika, pepper, garlic powder
The Dip:
1 cup mayo
2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
pinch of salt & pepper

Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Adam Strange At Adorn for December

Adorn will be hosting our beloved, Adam Strange, artist for the month of December! We love all the pieces hanging up! Probably, our most favorite Strange collection of work we've seen so far!

Here is a small sneak peak...get it?? (There are many more works at the salon, stay tuned for the newsletter!)

You can read his bio here or below:

Artist, Adam Strange is a man that believes in Pop Culture. His mind revolves around comic books, toys, television and music, all of which lends itself as perfect subject matter for much of his artwork.

Born in the District of Columbia and currently living in Asheville, North Carolina, Adam has also spent time in most of the fifty states as well as overseas. As a teenager he ran away from home to live on Grateful Dead tour, which kept him on the road for many years before setting his sights abroad. Strange spent much of the 1990’s bumming around Europe selling his artwork on the street.  During this period, Adam decided to ‘steal’ college by sneaking in to different art schools and learning what he could before being ejected by campus security.  Upon returning to the U.S. he began to focus primarily on his painting and incorporating his love for Pop Culture into his work.  Adam has built a large underground following using social media and word of mouth to help sell the more than 175 original pieces per year he paints. Several notable actors, musicians, artists, and even professional wrestlers have Adam Strange paintings hanging in their homes.   Asheville’s weekly paper, the “Mountain Xpress”, recently named him 3rd best painter in Western North Carolina and often describes him as “an Appalachian Warhol”.

When not painting, Adam is either the DJ for Grammy Award winning children’s hip hop group “Secret Agent 23 Skidoo” or is sitting around complaining about tourists in Asheville.
